OKAY JESUS CHRIST LMFAO
many, many hours later... and here we are! it's taken tons of tinkering, frustration, and yelling at my screen, but i've updated the top navigation buttons to be much more melee-like. i'm actualy quite proud of how they turned out. i've also implemented the font that melee uses for all text site-wide! really adds to the atmosphere. things are still quite rough around the edges, but i think overall the site is much more presentable and feels a bit more like my own work. i've also separated myself from the css files that i was re-using from my portfolio site which has helped me troubleshoot much more easily. here's a before and after of the nav buttons (still can't get the fucking images to center the way i want them to lole):
i took a slight detour while working on the design of the site to look into potential solutions for the blog section, because as i mentioned in the previous post, writing these posts in what is essentially plaintext is a little weird and unintuitive. there are such solutions out there that streamline the process, but i had a hell of a time trying to even understand how any of them worked. after about half an hour of frying my brain i decided i should probably just focus on getting the barebones functionality and visuals of the site up and running before i dive into more advanced stuff. i am brand new to web design after all and i know that it's better to take baby steps. the blog works fine the way it is for now, but i'm sure i will have to look into more permanent solutions down the road.
next on my to-do list is to work on the photo gallery. like i mentioned in the last post, i do want it, and all other pages on this site, to resemble screens from melee, but right now my immediate goal with it is to just have it function properly. it'll be nice once i do though, because it will hopefully give me a good escape from posting to instagram which, contrary to what they would have you believe, is actually quite dog shit for "real" photography (yes i know how pretentious that sounds). the layout of the page currently is very much a work in progress, but i think i've exhausted my mental faculties enough today just overhauling the site to the extent i did. i learned quite a lot too which was cool! only time will tell how much i absorb...
that's all for now. i will probably write something on the home page just so it isn't empty and call it a night. ciao
